Spring Plaque
Spring limestone, lime paint, 60 x 40 cm, 2015
Commissioned to be a contemporary addition to the artworks and architecture of the Church of St John the Baptist in the village of Pilton, Somerset. The death, resurrection and ascension of Christ, as told in the New Testament, inspired an image which shows the transition in nature between Winter and Spring.
The stone is a local blue lias limestone. The hand-drawn image was laser-engraved onto the surface of the stone. A traditional lime-based paint and pigment was used to highlight the engraved image.
